Project summary
Title: Working to Empower's 2006 HIV/AIDS and Maternal Health Project
Status: The first stage of the project is taking place from May through September 2006.
Location: The project is taking place in four refugee camps, two in Tanzania and two in Benin. In Tanzania, we are located close to Kigoma and in Benin we are located close to Conotou.

Partner Organizations: VIDEA, RESPECT International, New English Center for Hope in Nyargusu, Tanzania (NECH), CELA (Refugee academic and vocational school in Lugufu II, Tanzania), and GPER (Group of Refugee Students Parents in Benin).
Description: This Project is intended to build local capacity to increase knowledge of HIV/AIDS, particularly in relation to maternal health. It will increase HIV/AIDS knowledge in a local context by engaging young women to be trained as "community activators" who will develop the skills to educate their wider communitites on HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care. The project is based on the RRS Philosophy of Respect, Responsibility and Sustainability.
