education and capacity building. All of our Education projects are based on research and are designed to build capacity at various levels.

SPECIFIC PROGRAM 2

Project Summary

 

Title: Capacity Building

Lead organization: International Institute for Child Rights and Development

Description:

IICRD is actively involved in advising various organizations on how to better support vulnerable children through research grounded community development and educational approaches. The Institute draws on its wide range of expertise and International associates to best meet the expressed needs of organizations or communities.

In 2004-5, IICRD provided training and input to the Office for Children and Youth in BC, the NGO Advisory Panel to the International Study on Violence, the United Way and the Canadian Senate. IICRD is currently working with MCFD's transformation team.

IICRD has worked this past three years with the MCFD in providing specialized expertise to the Ministry on various children's issues.

A session was held in August 2002 followed by a seminar on issues related to Aboriginal children and communities.

Lesley Dutoit share her experience in transforming the child welfare system in South Africa to better support vulnerable children, Martin Broken Leg shared his extensive experience of supporting vulnerable children adnyouth through his Circles of Courage model, and Agnes Pierre and Bill White provided insites into the local realities and local traditions that can and are being used to support our children and youth in Aboriginal communities.

IICRD hosted a conference on the Prevention of Violence against Indigenous Children in Aug 04.

Derek Peterson is working with the regions to develop a "Helping Kids Suceed BC Style"

Collaboration at the district level is ongoing.
