Project Summary
Title: Starting from Strengths
Location: Malawi
Lead organization: International Institute for Child Rights and Development
Description:
A five year International Development Research Centre (IDRC) funded project operated in partnership with the Centre for Social Research, Chancellor College, Department of Psychology, Government of Malawi, Save the Children (USA) Malawi, UNICEF Malawi and World Vision Malawi. Starting from Strengths began the process of working with communities to facilitate the identification of their strengths to better allow them to develop and carry out action plans that improved the lives of children affected by HIV/AIDS. Special attention was given to building capacity in child-centred, culturally sensitive participatory action research techniques, children's rights and children's psycho-social needs in relation to grief and loss
