2006 Foreign Policy Conference

BUILDING GLOBAL PROSPERITY:

CANADA'S ENGAGEMENT WITH THE DEVELOPING WORLD

Overview

The conference will explore a number of themes relating to how the developed world conceives of the developing world, with special emphasis on Canadian development policy. Panel discussions will focus on:
- Thinking About Global Prosperity and Global Inequality
- Millennium Development Goals
- Trade Liberalization: Towards Fair or Unfair?
- Conflict, Natural Resources, and Governance
- Development: Facilitating the Private Sector?
- Emerging Opportunities: Canada's Gateway to Asia-Pacific
- Canada's Engagement with the Developing World

Speakers include:

Roy Culpeper (President, North-South Institute); Paul Evans (co-CEO, Asia Pacific Foundation); Bob Fowler (Canada’s Special Envoy for Peace in Sudan); Robert Greenhill (President, CIDA); Philippe Le Billon (UBC); John MacArthur (Deputy Director of the UN Millennium Project)*; Branko Milanovic (Lead Economist at the World Bank); Ananya Mukherjee-Reed (York University); Zoe Nielsen (Human Security Project, UBC); Maureen O’Neill (President, IDRC); James Riedel (Hopkins-Nanjing Center); Arthur Saper (CIDA)

About CIIA Foreign Policy Conferences

With the sponsorship and co-operation of business, academia, media, the NGO community and all levels of government, the CIIA's annual foreign policy conference is organized around a timely international theme. Experts from coast to coast and around the world join CIIA members and other interested participants for two days of incisive presentations and intensive discussions. The conference is held in a different city each year in co-operation with local branches and features an array of opinion leaders. It typically attracts one hundred and fifty to two hundred participants from across Canada and the United States.
