Commission
on Globalization
To
increase the level of international consultation and exposure
for policy research conducted at the Centre, CFGS is working
in partnership with the State
of the World Forum (SWF) to coordinate the Commission
on Globalization. The mission of the Commission is to "undertake
an inclusive and comprehensive multi-stakeholder inquiry
into the nature and character of globalization; and to
develop a broad consensus and specific recommendations
for governance and policy making at a global level that
promotes greater social equity, environmental protection,
enhanced security and sustainable economic growth".
Since
its inception in September 2000, The Commission on Globalization
has initiated a multi-faceted global consultative process
comprised of a several independent workstreams, including:
- Establishment
of a Global Leadership Network of diverse and influential
leaders representing a broad range of sectors and regions
to guide the work of the Commission;
- Policy
Action Groups to develop specific policy and programmatic
recommendations for improving the management of the global
system;
- Regional
Multi-stakeholder Dialogues and Community Building Meetings;
- High-level
consultations with the G8, G-20, and G77 governmental
groups, as well as critical parliamentary committees,
cabinet ministries, Heads of State, and their senior
staff and advisors.
The
versions of these activities will be prepared in a report
to the World Forum on Globalization, a major world conference
scheduled for 2004.
As one element of its partnership with State of the World Forum, CFGS will
lead Policy Action
Groups in the two areas of Intellectual
Property and The
New Threat Environment and Integrated Security. In addition, CFGS will
channel content drawn from the Post-Seattle Angst Project, including recommendations
from the Microfinance, Digital Divide and 2020 Global Architecture activities,
through the consultative mechanisms outlined above.
