Global Governance Defined
It is a defining fact of globalization that we now inhabit a world in which the most challenging problems are shared problems, requiring cooperative international solutions. Governance arrangements at the global level have a long history, yet the rapid emergence over the past ten to fifteen years of new state and non-state actors, new vulnerabilities, and new forms of conflict underscores a deficit in the ability of existing institutions to effectively manage our increasing interdependence. In this program area, CFGS associates are engaged in a range of policy development and reform initiatives at the local, national, regional, and international levels. A common objective in all of these activities is the pursuit of revitalized governance regimes that will enable more effective and more equitable responses to the imperatives of our integrated world.
