As
a "centre
of centres", the CFGS supports a dynamic multi-disciplinary
environment, made up of the following core divisions:
Canadian
Institute for Climate Studies
The Canadian Institute
for Climate Studies (CICS) is a not-for-profit Canadian corporation
initiated
by the Meteorological Service of Canada and the Province of British
Columbia. The Institute conducts
leading-edge research on climate change impacts and
scenarios, which it disseminates to government, business, industry
and the international climate research community.
Division of Globalization
and Governance
The Division of Globalization and Governance
conducts inquiry into the role of multilateral
institutions in the process of globalization.
The Division collaborates with international
partners
from a diverse range of sectors and perspectives
to examine problems of and identify solutions
for more effective international governance.
Division of Technology and International
Development
The Division of Technology and Development supports
research in maraculture and coastal resource management
in Latin America and Southeast Asia. The Division also
provides technical expertise to UVic faculty on the development
and implementation of Overseas Development Assistance (ODA)
Projects, and facilitates interactions among UVic faculty
on issues related to sustainability and security in developing
countries.
The
International Institute for Child Rights and Development
(IICRD)
The goal of Institute for Child Rights and Development is to promote
and monitor children's rights through research and education based
on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and other international
human rights conventions and treaties. Since 1994, we have sought
to bring the children's convention from the level of legislation
to policy and community programming supporting vulnerable children
in various countries around the world.
International Women's
Rights Project
The International Women's Rights Project (IWRP) was
founded in 1998 to strengthen the capacity of women's
NGOs and to influence the implementation of international
human rights standards, for the benefit of women, through
research and evidence-based advocacy. Our most recent
focus has been on our partnership with the Afghan Women's
Organization (located in Canada and Afghanistan) in
capacity-building for women's leadership and governance,
and in developing this as a model for other communities.
Canadian Consortium on Human
Security (CCHS) Human Security Fellowship Program
The CCHS Human Security Fellowship Program fosters innovative research and
policy development on a range of human security issues. The program is funded
by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT).
