- Students could be assessed on how well they planned for and implemented their solution to local problems. Were they able to develop possible solutions, such as renewal projects in the home, school and community? Were students able to design a survey, gather data, and analyse those data to develop a responsible, knowledgeable plan of action in the local community?
- Did students display an understanding that over-consumption of resources and production of waste in Canada is a major problem? Were students able to identify environmental problems and develop a positive education program? How well did they accomplish the tasks assigned to them?
- "Think globally, act locally". Students can be assessed through assignments in the community, through written reports and news articles as well as through other resentation media. For example, they can communicate through writing, audio and video, computer presentations, murals, webs, debates, and class discussions.
- Raise the profile of positive action possibilities. Students can be assessed on their ability to create educational displays for the public, and to write articles for publication locally, provincially, nationally and internationally. Assessment could also focus on how well students were able to inform peers, teachers, district administration, parents, the public, government officials, about environmental problems and possible solutions.
