GLOBAL CHANGE AND CANADIANS

The Book

Global Change and Canadians is a 60 page book containing the hard facts about global environmental change and how it affects Canadians. Produced under the auspices of the Royal Society of Canada, the book contains facts, figures and explanations that have been developed in collaboration with several of Canada's top global change researchers.

Global Change and Canadians is intended for a senior high school through adult audience. It objectively tackles such topics as ozone depletion, climate change, sea level change, global economics, energy, and culture and values. In addition to providing readers with the recent statistics and theories behind these topics, the book explains where consensus has been reached and where uncertainty still exists. Finally, it outlines their significance for individual Canadians and the country.

The Teacher's Guide

A teacher's guide designed to complement this book is now available. The 80 page guide contains 77 learning activities based on the themes contained in Global Change and Canadians. It also suggests ways of linking these themes to various subjects (e.g. natural science, geography, language arts), with the intention of helping teachers work the activities into existing curricula.

Workshops

The Canadian Global Change Program has also developed a workshop to further help familiarize teachers with global change issues, and to facilitate their use of Global Change and Canadians and the Teacher's Guide in the classroom. The program has offered these workshops to groups interested in taking an active role in their organization.

Global Change and Canadians, the Teacher's Guide and the workshops are available in English and French.
