WHAT DO WE MEAN BY BIODIVERSITY?

Biodiversity is defined in the Convention on Biological Diversity as "the variability among all living organisms from all sources including, inter alia, terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part; this includes diversity within species, between species, and of ecosystems.". The Canadian Biodiversity Strategy's vision for biodiversity in Canada is of "A society that lives and develops as part of nature, valuing all life, taking no more than nature can replenish and leaving to future generations a nurturing and dynamic world, rich in its diversity of life."
