WOCE - World Ocean Circulation Experiment (français)
WOCE is a program of the WCRP, whose primary goal is to develop ocean models useful for the prediction of climate change and to collect of data sets necessary to test those models. A global field program designed to describe the global three dimensional ocean circulation will be carried out from 1990 to 1997. (The Arctic Ocean was excluded from the design of the WOCE field program). The synthesis and analysis of these data will continue under WOCE coordination until 2002.
WOCE has established two primary goals:
i) to develop models useful for predicting climate change and to collect the data necessary to test them, and
ii) to determine the representativeness of the specific WOCE datasets for the long term behaviour of the ocean, and to find methods for determining long-term changes in the ocean circulation.

WOCE - Expérience sur la circulation mondiale océanique
Le WOCE, créé en 1990, est un volet du PMRC, dont l'objectif premier est la mise au point de modèles océaniques pour la prévision du changement climatique et la cueillette des ensembles de données nécessaires pour les valider. La circulation océanique sera étudiée à toutes les profondeurs et sur toute la planète pendant sept ans, soit de 1990 à 1997.
Le WOCE a deux objectifs :
i) mettre au point des modèles utiles pour la prévision du changement climatique et recueillir les données nécessaires pour les valider;
ii) déterminer jusqu'à quel point les ensembles de données typiques du WOCE sont représentatifs du comportement à long terme de l'océan, et trouver des méthodes permettant de déterminer les changements à long terme dans la circulation océanique.
