WCP - World Climate Program

The WCP formed in 1979 as a result of the First World Climate Conference, under the auspices of the WMO, UNEP, IOC and ICSU. The WCP strives to help nations in the application of climate information to human activities, and to improve measurement and understanding of global climate processes. The WCP is organized into four structural components which are:

i) The World Climate Data and Monitoring Program
ii) The World Climate Applications and Services Program
iii) The World Climate Impact Assessment and Response Strategies Program
iv) The World Climate Research Program

Overall co-ordination of activities within these sub-groups is effected by the Coordinating Committee for the World Climate Program with representation from all relevant agencies.

PCM - Programme climatologique mondial

Le PCM a été mis sur pied en 1979 à la suite de la Première Conférence mondiale sur le climat, sous les auspices de l'OMM, du PNUE, de la COI et du CIUS. Le PCM a pour but d'aider les nations à appliquer l'information climatologique aux activités humaines, et d'améliorer la mesure et la compréhension des processus climatiques planétaires. Le PCM opère en quatre grands volets, qui sont :

i) le Programme mondial des données climatologiques et de surveillance du climat;
ii) le Programme mondial des applications et des services climatologiques;
iii) le Programme mondial d'évaluation des incidences du climat et de formulation de stratégies d'action;
iv) le Programme mondial de recherche sur le climat.

La coordination globale des activités dans ces quatre programmes est effectuée par le comité de coordination du Programme climatologique mondial, où sont représentés tous les organismes concernés.

PARRAINS : Les organisations fondatrices sont l'OMM, le PNUE, la COI et le CIUS.
