PICES - North Pacific Marine Science Organization(français)PICES was established in March, 1992 and formed six working groups at its first annual meeting in October, 1992. The contracting parties to PICES are Canada, Japan, The Peoples Republic of China, and the U.S.A. PICES is primarily interested in the North Pacific Ocean and its adjacent seas from 30 degrees North Latitude and including the Bering and Okhotsk seas. The purpose of the Organization is to promote and coordinate marine scientific research in order to advance scientific knowledge of the area concerned and of its living resources, including but not necessarily limited to, research with respect to the ocean environment and its interactions with the land and atmosphere, its role in and response to global weather and climate change, its flora, fauna, and ecosystems, its uses and resources, and impacts upon it from human activities. PICES also promotes the collection and exchange of information and data related to marine scientific research in the area concerned.

CIEM-P - Organisation des sciences de la mer du Pacifique nordLe CIEM-P a été créé en mars 1992, et a établi six groupes de travail lors de sa première réunion annuelle en octobre de la même année. En font partie le Canada, le Japon, la République populaire de Chine et les États-Unis. Le CIEM-P s'intéresse essentiellement au Pacifique Nord et à ses mers adjacentes à partir de 30o de latitude nord, y compris les mers de Béring et d'Okhotsk. L'organisation a pour objectif de favoriser et de coordonner les recherches en sciences de la mer pour faire avancer les connaissances scientifiques du domaine concerné et de ses ressources vivantes, dont, entre autres, la recherche concernant le milieu océanique et ses interactions avec les terres et l'atmosphère, son rôle dans le changement planétaire climatique et météorologique et sa réponse à ce changement, sa flore, sa faune et ses écosystèmes, ses utilisations et ressources, ainsi que les incidences qu'ont sur lui les activités humaines. Le CIEM-P favorise en outre la cueillette et l'échange d'information et de données liées à la recherche en sciences de la mer dans le domaine concerné.
