LOICZ - Land-Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone(français)LOICZ is an IGBP core project established in 1992, whose aim is to develop a predictive understanding of the effects of changes in climate, land use and sea level on the global functioning and sustainability of coastal ecosystems. The coastal zone, where land, air and sea meet, is a region of high physical energy and biological diversity that is heavily exploited by humans. It is also a zone that is particularly vulnerable to global change. Emphasis will be placed on the interactions between changing conditions on land and sea, and on positive feedback effects of the physical environment. Research will also be focused on the economic and social impacts of global change on coastal systems. Many of the LOICZ studies will complement much of the work being done by JGOFS.

LOICZ - Interaction terre-océan dans les zones côtièresLe LOICZ, créé en 1992, est un des projets principaux du PIGB, qui tente d'établir, à des fins de prévision, une compréhension des effets des changements dans le climat, l'utilisation des terres et le niveau de la mer sur les processus en jeu dans les écosystèmes côtiers et la durabilité de ceux-ci. Les zones côtières, où se rencontrent l'air, la terre et la mer, renferment une énergie physique et une diversité biologique qu'exploite beaucoup être humain. Elles sont aussi très vulnérables au changement planétaire. On se penchera surtout sur les interactions entre les changements terrestres et marins, et sur les rétroactions positives du milieu physique. Les recherches porteront aussi sur les effets économiques et sociaux du changement planétaire sur ces écosystèmes. Nombre des études du programme LOICZ viendront compléter les travaux faits par le JGOFS.
