ICES - International Council for the Exploration of the Sea(français)ICES, founded in the early part of this century, provides a focus for scientific investigations of biological and oceanographic factors in the North Atlantic Ocean. Today ICES is an important forum for the exchange and analysis of scientific information and the promotion of research in the area of resource assessment and advice to fisheries management in the North Atlantic and its adjacent seas. As a member of ICES, Canada is responsible for providing scientists for participation in certain working and study groups, many of the research activities requiring international travel on the part of the participating scientists. Canada also derives most valuable scientific information on various issues through ICES-sponsored activities.

CIEM - Conseil international pour l'exploration de la merLe CIEM, fondé au début du siècle, s'intéresse aux enquêtes scientifiques sur les facteurs biologiques et océanographiques qui interviennent dans l'Atlantique Nord. Aujourd'hui, le CIEM constitue une tribune importante pour l'échange et l'analyse d'information scientifique, la promotion de la recherche en matière de gestion des ressources et la consultation sur la gestion des pêches dans l'Atlantique Nord et les mers adjacentes. En tant que membre du CIEM, le Canada doit déléguer des scientifiques pour participer à certains groupes d'étude et de travail. Ces scientifiques seront appelés à voyager dans le monde entier pour prendre part à plusieurs des activités de recherche. Grâce aux activités parrainées par le CIEM, le Canada profitera aussi de l'information scientifique la plus précieuse sur différentes questions.
