THE FUTURE of CANADA-US “INTEGRATION”
Some Canadians argue that Canada’s integration with the US is necessary and inevitable. Others insist that Canada should strive to maintain its independence. The University of Victoria’s Centre for Global Studies (CFGS) partnered with CBC Newsworld to host an innovative exploration of the future of the Canada-US relationship.

A CONFERENCE WITHOUT WALLS
Four key aspects of Canada’s relations with the US were discussed at a Nov 26-28 conference at UVic: security, water, energy and economic integration. A spectrum of views were presented by well known experts in each of the four fields:

BROADCASTING COAST TO COAST TO COAST
To “go public” with this debate, CBC Newsworld is broadcasting four hour-long television specials in December. The fourth program will feature an interactive exchange on the issues in a live ‘town-hall’ type forum.

BRINGING FUTURE DECISION MAKERS ONLINE
To involve young Canadians, the project hosted an essay competition and involved students at the UVic conference in November.
